An inventory carried out within the framework of the Untamed Spain project confirms the importance of nature photography tourism in our country.
Spain is one of the countries with the greatest biological diversity in Europe, and this is also reflected in its nature tourism offer. The new national inventory, carried out within the Untamed Spain project, has identified more than 500 active hides, managed by 56 specialized companies across 14 autonomous regions.
An evolving sector
The last available reference dated back ten years. Since then, the number of hides has remained stable, but some changes have taken place: fewer companies are operating, yet with more professionals and higher-quality facilities. This qualitative leap reflects the maturity of a sector that is increasingly striving for excellence and sustainability.
Regions such as Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Catalonia and Extremadura concentrate much of the current offer, although the report also points to the huge growth potential in other territories that are less developed in tourism.
Challenges and Opportunities
The report also points to a pending challenge: only 10% of companies are led by women, highlighting the need to promote greater equality in the sector. Another key challenge is to continue advancing towards universal accessibility, ensuring that everyone can enjoy these experiences.
Hides are not just a tourism resource: they are also a tool for awareness and conservation. They allow respectful encounters with wildlife, create opportunities in rural areas, and connect people with nature in a unique way.
