From AEFONA we invite you to share your images to contribute to the dissemination and promotion of the conservation of the natural environment and the beings that inhabit the Iberian steppes. If you care about the conservation of our landscapes and living beings, we encourage you to take part in this fun and committed event that brings together visual artists—from photography, painting, sculpture…—in order to highlight the natural values of our steppes.

01 Dates

You can upload your images, regardless of the date they were taken, from Friday, June 27 at 12:00 p.m. to Sunday, June 29 at 11:59 p.m. of this year, 2025.

02 Objective of the Activity

The PhotoMarathon aims to promote active participation in the observation, dissemination, and conservation of nature, encouraging knowledge and appreciation of the Iberian steppes—an ecosystem of immense richness and fragility. This activity is intended as a fun and sporting event to share our images and contribute to the dissemination and promotion of conservation of the natural environment and its inhabitants.

From AEFONA, as part of the SALVAJE FEST, we organize this initiative to highlight the importance of the Iberian steppes and the need for their conservation. Membership in AEFONA or registration for the congress is not required to participate. This is an open and free call for visual artists of all kinds and disciplines. We appreciate the sharing of this initiative among conservation associations and entities.

03 PhotoMarathon Rules

A. Theme:

• Biodiversity, including fauna, flora, landscape, and cultural elements associated with the Iberian steppes.
• Creativity, technical and aesthetic quality, and commitment to the natural environment will be especially valued when selecting images for the book and audiovisual presentation.

B. Participants:

Open to any person of legal age (or minors with authorization).

C. Modality:

1. Digital photography.
2. Each participant may upload up to 5 images.
3. Plastic works such as sculpture, drawing, painting, illustration… are welcome, provided they are photographed and comply with the technical requirements to be shared in the online gallery.

D. Image Submission:

1. Through an online gallery provided by our sponsor Arcadina. The link will be made public on June 27, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. on Untamed Spain’s social media and on this same page.
2. Images must be uploaded between Friday, June 27 at 12:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 29 at 11:59 p.m., 2025.

E. Technical Requirements:

• JPG format.
• Color profile: sRGB.
• Minimum resolution: 2000px on the longest side.
• No frames, watermarks, or signatures.
• Global processing adjustments allowed (contrast, exposure, sharpness, cropping up to a maximum of 20%, as well as consecutive multiple exposure in the same image). No montages or digitally altered images are allowed, especially with added or removed elements. The organization seeks to promote photographic processes over digital manipulation.
• Images of drawings, illustrations, sculptures… scanned or photographed are allowed as long as they meet the technical requirements.
• Please respect the AEFONA Code of Ethics

F. Rights and Uses:

1. The organization may use the submitted photos exclusively for the dissemination of this project, with no commercial purposes, and always crediting the author.
2. Each image in the gallery must have been created by the person who uploaded it, who will be legally responsible for its authorship.
3. AEFONA reserves the right to request the original files (RAW or JPEG) for images selected in the raffle, as well as a signed statement detailing how the image was obtained.
4. For images submitted by participants under the age of 14, written authorization from parents or legal guardians is required to upload the images to the gallery.

04 Contact and Communication

The contest organizers may contact any participant from the following email address: fotomaraton.salvajefest@aefona.org. Similarly, any inquiries from participants regarding the contest will be handled through the same email address. We recommend adding this address to your email contacts to prevent communications from being blocked by security or spam filters.

05 Raffle

To encourage participation solely for the purpose of nature conservation, this initiative is not a competition. It aims to be a shared effort, without prizes or competitiveness. Therefore, a public raffle will be held among all participants attending the AEFONA Congress, with donated prize packages. Winners will be notified via email and asked to provide a mailing address to receive their prize.

These prize packages will consist of AEFONA products (books, magazines, various field materials), as well as donations received for this project (experiences in hides, books, photographic equipment, etc.).

06 Dissemination

We will use the following hashtags for any news or posts on Instagram related to the marathon: #maratonestepasibericas and #maratonsalvajefest.

We appreciate the tagging of these hashtags in any personal social media posts about the marathon to help promote participation and spread its values. The organization will promote the celebration of this PhotoMarathon and its results (participation and raffle outcome) across websites, forums, social media, and newsletters.

AEFONA will create an audiovisual piece about the Iberian steppes using a selection of images from the online gallery, courtesy of our sponsor ARCADINA.

AEFONA will also produce a digital catalog available for free download, including a foreword by a conservation organization.

07 Data Protection Policy

In accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council (GDPR), and Organic Law 3/2018 of December 5 on the Protection of Personal Data and Guarantee of Digital Rights, we inform you that the personal data provided in the context of the PhotoMarathon through the Iberian Steppes will be processed for the purpose of managing your participation in the activity, as well as for communication related to the event, including the raffle and the publication of results.

For the receipt and dissemination of images, we will use the platform of our collaborator Arcadina, who acts as the data processor under contract and in accordance with applicable regulations. This platform will provide the online gallery where participants can upload and view works.

The legal basis for the data processing is the consent of the data subject, granted through voluntary participation in the event. Your data will not be shared with third parties unless legally required or strictly necessary for the execution of the activity.

You may exercise your rights of access, rectification, deletion, restriction of processing, portability, and objection at any time by sending a request to: (fotomaraton.salvajefest@aefona.org), including a document that verifies your identity.

Once the event has ended and the raffle prize packages have been delivered to the recipients, the data will be securely and permanently deleted and will not be stored beyond what is strictly necessary.

08 Acceptance of the Rules

Participation in this contest implies full acceptance of each and every one of these rules. The organization reserves the right to resolve any situation not covered by them.
